And now you can watch our attempt at making it here:

We just want to start off by giving our props to a kitchen gadget that doesn’t always get much appreciation… how incredible are slow cookers? At the moment we’re obsessed and this beef lasagne soup recipe is working just the treat in it. What’s fantastic is how easy it is to cook this in the slow cooker - just pop everything in and let it cook away for a few hours and your delicious soup will be waiting for you! It’s fantastically easy. In our opinion - slow cookers are lit genius and if you’re thinking of your next kitchen gadget we recommend it!

The recipe:

So we’re going to start off adding some garlic - when we decide how much garlic to put in we’re going to suggest that you put enough garlic in so that your breath be stanking for a few days.

Then of course some diced onion.

Then we decided to add a red pepper in; mainly just because it was going off in the fridge - so why not chuck it in there!

Then you want to add in your herbs - not your spices! We decided to go for a bit of oregano and lil bit of basil just to keep it interesting.

Next we’re going to add our chopped tomatoes and don’t you just love it when the tin comes with those ring pulls and you don’t need to get that crusty can opener that never works out of the draw.

Anyway… you’re then going to add your two tablespoons of tomato puree.

Salt - always - salt. Salt, salt and more salt - for that flavour mmmmm!

Obviously you need to add your beef mince and what’s even better you don’t need to brown it off - it’ll all cook in the slow cooker!

You’re then going to add some Worcestershire sauce and some beef stock and make sure you mix it in well!

Then you’re going to pop the lid on and set it 4 hours and all you can do then is wait.

About half an hour before you’re ready to eat it we’re going to go in with the lasagne sheets. They say to use fresh lasagne sheets but they didn’t have any in the supermarket - and if you watched my video it always tastes that lil bit more fresh when you don’t drop them all on the floor.

You’re then going to add some cream.

A whole ball of mozzarella ripped up into piece- gosh sometimes a piece of mozzarella just slaps - really been in the mood for anything cheesy or creamy at the moment.

You’re then going to pop in a bit of parmesan.

And leave it for a little while to melt in.

The results:

Oh goodness! This dish smells absolutely delicious when you lift up the lid. Really hoping for that cheese pull when we scoop it all out - need that stringy mozzarella to do its bit.

So the verdict on the lasagne soup - this is a new winter fave! It’s delicious - the lumps of mozzarella intertwined with that strong onion garlic and herb base is just fantastic. Definitely a new slow cooker favourite!

If you’ve tried it - let us know your thoughts in the comments: Is the lasagne soup a hit or a miss for you? Till next time.

This French Drink Tastes Exactly like Mint Ice Cream

Recently, we had the pleasure of spending some time in the idyllic French countryside, and when in France it’s important to engage in the culture. This time we weren’t looking at baguettes or croissants. This time we tried a children’s classic. You may have heard of it or maybe not with the very French name of: Teisseire Sirop de Plantes Menthe. We translated it to Mint Syrup… now, people might think this is a weird sounding drink and if you’re a little nervous to try it! Do not worry! We’ve done it for you - check it out below:

Good day friends!

Now these syrups seems to be very much the French equivalent of the more British cordial/ squash like Robinsons Orange! A British classic. A lot of people have been telling us that we need to try this syrup because we’re such a big fan of the mojito and mint and lime type drink.

On first inspection when you pour this syrup out you will notice; IT IS VICIOUSLY GREEN! Just look at my reaction…

We’re going to be trying it first with some water because our fave condiment girl - Condiment Claire says that back in the day all the French kids would have it with milk. You can find her video just below:

@condimentclaire Reply to @croutonightmare69 ♬ original sound - Claire

With Water:

We’re not quite so sure about the mint and milk vibe… kinda feels like when you’re brushing your teeth and then you have a glass of milk after it and it really doesn’t go together! It seems quite wrong. So, we’re going to try it with water first.

On first impression the best word I can give it is… interesting… very interesting. It’s definitely minty. Kinda tastes like mouthwash. For some reason we thought it would be limey - no idea where that came from but definitely not what we were expecting with the water.

With Milk:

This time we’re gonna try this sucker with milk, it feels wrong just saying it. It sounds rogue. Mint milk - like these things just do not go together and it was very argued in the comments as well whether this was even something that people had as kids or not.

It looks wrong - is Condiment Claire having us on? Is she playing a joke on us? But maybe, in the area she was from it was a common thing? Like we were big fans of having celery and peanut butter and we’re certain that’s not a common snack everywhere else - you wouldn’t find that up in Yorkshire.

On looking at it again for a second time it looks a bit like a sweetie. Maybe on the same lines as a banana milkshake. And if you looked at Condiment Claire’s video you’ll see they have so many different flavours to choose from like passionfruit, strawberry and even grenadine. This has kinda got us thinking that we need a full taste test on these bad boys…

So, the mint one with milk. The taste of it we were not anticipating. If we were going to describe it, it sort of tastes like the inside of an After Eight in a drink.

To be fair to it… it’s actually not as bad as you might be thinking. It’s A LOT better with the milk than it is with the water. Hot damn… that’s surprised us. What the heck?

We’ve got it… it tastes like melted mint chocolate ice cream or like mint ice cream.

If ever in France you guys need to try this.

Let us know in the comments what you think and if there’s any of you crazy cats who prefer it with water you’ve got to let us know!

Till next time.

This is the Best Pasta Spot in London

For a long time we thought we were set on our favourite pasta place in London. We were big fans of Padella, a cute pasta restaurant in Borough Market that was delivering the goods… like so much so that we would give it the Grackle stamp of approval to people in conversation. It was our favourite, the one, the best… or so we thought!

We’ve been dying to try this new spot on the block - Flour and Grape. Found nestled in the busy streets of Bermondsey we could not wait to try it and luckily enough our day came and we managed to go when there was no queue and oh my goodness this place blows Padella out of the water.

Take a look below and see our review:

Now don’t get me wrong Padella is still good. We just think that Flour and Grape is a whole level up. If we’re going to eat out then the likelihood is that we’re all going to do a sharing thing as we like to get a little taste of everything. That’s just the way it has to be so you can talk about the different foods and everyone knows what’s going on.

So we started with some Nocerellas as you know I just can’t hold back from those sweet olives. We then moved onto the main dishes and we ordered a selection: We had the Anolini - which was a delicious spinach pasta, The Ravioli with ricotta pumpkin and almonds! YUM! We also had the spaghetti Carbonara which was just delightful. All of the items we ordered were creamy and delicious and just had that perfect blend of Italian flavours that makes pasta feel like home.

If you saw my reaction to them all it went something like this…. ‘oh wow… oh my goodness…’ and that continued for quite some time as we obsessed over this pasta. It was giving some seriously good times.

The main takeaway from my experience here is that the food is just absolutely delicious. A solid 10/10. We loved the service which was fantastic; they were attentive and chilled and even better is that the still and sparkling water was complimentary!

Overall, the vibes at Flour and Grape are immaculate - they did everything right from the food to the portion sizes to the atmosphere; making this is my new favourite pasta spot in London.

If you have any recommendations for pasta spots you need to let us know in the comments… or if you’ve been to Flour and Grape and you wanted to fan girl with us… just leave a comment!

There’s nothing like a fan favourite, Chicken and Chips! It’s a classic, a staple, a meal eaten far and wide across the UK. We recently sought out a VIRAL rotisserie chicken and chip shop named: Bébé Bob; a restaurant that is winning with its name - but is it winning with its chicken? We’re going to find out…

They say that this restaurant was ‘born out of a love for rotisserie chicken, caviar and fine wine’ and to be fair we can imagine that a lot of people share those loves! We’re definitely there, at least for the chicken! Bébé Bob is a sibling restaurant to Bob Bob Ricard and it’s located in the Golden Square in Soho - and it’s definitely the most ‘glamorous rotisserie’ we’ve seen.

Check out the experience below:

@gracebooth97

Bebe Bob wins name of the year on the restaurant front, a restaurant that solely sells rotisserie chicken and chips…but will it actually win on the delicious scale???

♬ original sound - Grackle

Bébé Bob focuses on doing one thing - Rotisserie Chicken and Chips and you know our key saying: If they only do one thing then that thing is probably gonna be incredible!

It’s an interesting thing to note when you look at a restaurants menu. Does a restaurant have a really wide ranging menu or a very focussed, finely curated one. There’s pros and cons to both, but the trend seems to be the restaurants that focus on fewer things tend to do them maybe a little better.

We went in for the express lunch, as the menu can be quite pricey otherwise - so you need to watch out for that. With the express lunch you get a salad and fries included with the chicken for the extravagant price of £24 opposed to just the rotisserie chicken for £29 in the evening.

Now as you know, we’re big olive lovers! Olives, bread and crisps are our favourite food and when we go out we must get the olives! You know when those Olives just smack. These ones were really good - they were meaty and full of flavour. We also got some bread which was expensive: £4 for four pieces of bread, seriously? But, once you get over the price you realise that this is the kind of exquisite, sweet, delicious, mouthwatering bread that you get in the far off lands of France. It was absolutely banging.

Finally, on to the main event. The salad, chicken and chips. Shall we start with the chips? The chips were excellent, very hot and crispy on the outside which is essential in a well cooked chip. It also had some kind of delicious seasoning to give it that extra bit of something that really made it slap. On to the chicken... If you’ve ever had the good fortune to enjoy a supermarket rotisserie chicken you will know how delicious it is. Filled with all the juice, the moist perfectly cooked chicken and that crispy flavoursome skin, how do they do it? Supermarket rotisserie chickens are phenomenal and this chicken didn’t taste that far off it. It was juicy, but the skin wasn’t quite so crispy, and the flavour didn’t quite hit like that supermarket rotisserie.

To summate on this experience, it’s a good time, but if you’re really in it for the chicken it’s probably better to just go and get a rotisserie chicken from the supermarket. It’ll save you a whole lot of money and you’ll enjoy it just as much. There we go we said it and we’ll hold to it. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Does Yoghurt Cake Work with a Pot of Joy?

We’re going to try a variation of the classic Yoghurt Cake recipe using a Pot of Joy! Come and have a read and find out how it turned out…

We want to start off this blog with a shout out to one of our favourites: Condiment Claire.

Claire is well known on #foodtok and is a great source of fun and inspiration when it comes to unique and interesting food creations. We credit Claire with the inspo for today’s blog - a variation of her classic Yoghurt Cake recipe. Claire made the Yoghurt cake recipe famous on TikTok. It’s where you use yoghurt and the yoghurt pot to measure out all your ingredient and produce a delicious moist cake!

You can check out here version here:

@condimentclaire ONE POT CAKE!! Gâteau au yaourt 🇫🇷🥛@Claire ♬ original sound - Claire

We’re going to try a variation of this but rather than using the classic yoghurt pot… we’re going to use a Cadbury’s Pot of Joy! This doesn’t have the same texture or viscosity of yoghurt but we think it could be pretty tasty and really it just intrigued us… so why not try it y’know! You can check out our attempt below:

@gracebooth97

THE yogurt cake, pot of joy edition

♬ original sound - Grackle

Basically, the way you want to do this is to weigh everything in a yoghurt pot, whether it’s a half a cup or a full cup, bigger or smaller - it doesn’t matter too much as you use the yoghurt pot as your standard of measure.

We’ve taken this premise and rather than using the typical yoghurt pot we’re trying it with a Pot of Joy - a Cadbury’s favourite. We were pretty intrigued to see if this would work as a Pot of Joy isn’t your standard yoghurt - it’s got that different texture and has way more sugar.

Therefore, we decided to reduce the sugar needed in the recipe to compensate for the Pot of Joy.

If you want to follow along properly the recipe is linked below! Also, before we forget - if you know a baker and want to make their life 100x better - you need to get them a mini spatula! Life changing.

As you can see if you watched above:

  • We started off cracking an egg and mixing our sugar together

  • Then we added some vegetable oil.

  • Zested some clementine

  • A splash of vanilla

  • Some baking powder

  • A dollop of flour

  • Then our Pot of Joy

At this point we were debating whether it would be worth adding some ground almonds for that lil bit of crunch!

  • We then mixed it all together

Then we thought that choccy chips would have been a GREAT shout alas we held off.

  • We added the mixture into our cake tin and it was looking pretty good!

  • Pop it into the oven for 40 minutes.

And here we have the finished product - it looked on the outset pretty fantastic. It’s warm and the texture is squishy and moist - one of the things we’ve noticed about the yoghurt cakes is that they are just so MOIST! Oh gosh and the chocolate orange smelt so good too.

The Verdict:

Overall, the texture and the moistness were fantastic! Exactly what we were looking for but the taste was just a little disappointing. It just wasn’t chocolatey enough - not chocolatey enough AT ALL. On reflection we think it definitely could have done with some chocolate chips or maybe just go back to the normal yoghurt cake recipe and add some cocoa powder with the yoghurt.

Don’t get us wrong - it’s nice - it just could of been better.

At any rate - we really enjoyed making it. It’s a fun way to make a cake and there are so many possibilities that you could play around with. We’re thinking a marble cake next time. If you’ve had a go at this, we would love to know how you got on in the comments. Till next time.
