This French Drink Tastes Exactly like Mint Ice Cream

Good day friends!

Recently, we had the pleasure of spending some time in the idyllic French countryside, and when in France it’s important to engage in the culture. This time we weren’t looking at baguettes or croissants. This time we tried a children’s classic. You may have heard of it or maybe not with the very French name of: Teisseire Sirop de Plantes Menthe. We translated it to Mint Syrup… now, people might think this is a weird sounding drink and if you’re a little nervous to try it! Do not worry! We’ve done it for you - check it out below:

Now these syrups seems to be very much the French equivalent of the more British cordial/ squash like Robinsons Orange! A British classic. A lot of people have been telling us that we need to try this syrup because we’re such a big fan of the mojito and mint and lime type drink.

On first inspection when you pour this syrup out you will notice; IT IS VICIOUSLY GREEN! Just look at my reaction…

We’re going to be trying it first with some water because our fave condiment girl - Condiment Claire says that back in the day all the French kids would have it with milk. You can find her video just below:

With Water:

We’re not quite so sure about the mint and milk vibe… kinda feels like when you’re brushing your teeth and then you have a glass of milk after it and it really doesn’t go together! It seems quite wrong. So, we’re going to try it with water first.

On first impression the best word I can give it is… interesting… very interesting. It’s definitely minty. Kinda tastes like mouthwash. For some reason we thought it would be limey - no idea where that came from but definitely not what we were expecting with the water.

With Milk:

This time we’re gonna try this sucker with milk, it feels wrong just saying it. It sounds rogue. Mint milk - like these things just do not go together and it was very argued in the comments as well whether this was even something that people had as kids or not.

It looks wrong - is Condiment Claire having us on? Is she playing a joke on us? But maybe, in the area she was from it was a common thing? Like we were big fans of having celery and peanut butter and we’re certain that’s not a common snack everywhere else - you wouldn’t find that up in Yorkshire.

On looking at it again for a second time it looks a bit like a sweetie. Maybe on the same lines as a banana milkshake. And if you looked at Condiment Claire’s video you’ll see they have so many different flavours to choose from like passionfruit, strawberry and even grenadine. This has kinda got us thinking that we need a full taste test on these bad boys…

So, the mint one with milk. The taste of it we were not anticipating. If we were going to describe it, it sort of tastes like the inside of an After Eight in a drink.

To be fair to it… it’s actually not as bad as you might be thinking. It’s A LOT better with the milk than it is with the water. Hot damn… that’s surprised us. What the heck?

We’ve got it… it tastes like melted mint chocolate ice cream or like mint ice cream.

If ever in France you guys need to try this.

Let us know in the comments what you think and if there’s any of you crazy cats who prefer it with water you’ve got to let us know!

Till next time.
